Sitting Posture to Avoid Ash-Shareed bin Suwaid (radi Allahu - TopicsExpress

Sitting Posture to Avoid Ash-Shareed bin Suwaid (radi Allahu anhu) reported: “The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) passed by me when I was sitting with my left hand behind my back and leaning on my palm. On seeing me in this posture he said, ‘Do you sit like those upon whom the Wrath of Allah has descended?’” [Abu Dawud] In every prayer, at least 17 times a day, we ask Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) in Surah Fatiha, “ghairil maghdhubi alaihim wa ladhaaleen” / “do not make us like those on whom Your Wrath descended, nor like those who went astray (i.e. the Jews and Christians.)” Surprisingly we contradict ourselves on this all the time -- celebrating Valentines, anniversaries, birthdays, Halloween, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Basant, Dewali, Mehndi, Mayoun, and innumerable other events like them. We copy their fashions, mannerisms, and even weddings and funerals, while we have been prohibited from copying their example. We take pride in imitating them and think it necessary or cool! We see in this hadith that copying the mannerisms, style and behaviour of the Kuffar is so dangerous that the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) forbade the Sahabah from even sitting like them. Suppose an employee broke all the rules of the organization, flagrantly challenged the authorities to do what they may and ended up getting fired. Won’t the other employees take a lesson from his behaviour and its result? Would it be sensible for them to imitate the fired employee? Then why is it that we don’t understand this when we imitate the Bani Israil whom Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) has cursed as a result of their disobedience and insolence?
