Sitting in the coliseum looking at the huge walls and seeing all - TopicsExpress

Sitting in the coliseum looking at the huge walls and seeing all the tourists standing all around the structure with the arena in the middle. My attention is drawn to a Cross that was erected on the one side and im transported back to when the Christians would be martyred here and torn to pieces by wild animals. I find the Cross so fitting at this location because the Coliseum for me represents just that. A generation of Christians that would forget their worldly lives and stretch out towards a heavenly country. What was it that these Christians had that could transform an Empire from secular society to Christianity becoming the state religion. It was the Willingness to be Sacrificed. I can see Ignatius of Antioch walking through these tunnels from his prison cell to the arena where he would be massacred and doing it WILLINGLY. This is the generation i want to see and be part of. A generation that forgets themselves that counts all as loss that counts the reproach of Christ greater than the riches of this world. A generation that rejoices that they have been counted worthy to suffer for Christs sake. The more we lose of this world the more we gain Christ in this moment. To close a prayer: Inwardly cleansed interiorly enlightened inflamed by the fire of Your Holy Spirit may we be able to follow in the footsteps of Your beloved Son- Francis of Assisi
