Sitting in the dark typing away on my computer. The outside world - TopicsExpress

Sitting in the dark typing away on my computer. The outside world has completely vanished as my thesis, which seems to shape shift in purpose on a regular basis without any input from me, has taken over my mind. At the same time I am fighting to type sentences which include the letter N as my N left long ago for reasons unknown and unshared. Anyway there I was clacking away, occasionally banging when arriving at unknown or neutron when I feel a weird swish across the side of my neck. Living where I do I quickly decide it must be a Mosquito Eater or moth attracted to the light of my laptop.I go back to typing, click click clack tick bang bang click....swish Gloop. Now I jump up, something VERY WET and cold has just touched my neck again. I frantically turn on the light, nothing. My cat who I call Orangey though his Christian name is Franz Horowitz stares at me with an odd look. Hes been staring at me for awhile I realize, a bit spooky. His big gold eyes seem confused by my irrational behavior. I feel stupid so I sit back down however I leave the light on. Back to thesis, clack clack when jump, theres a giant toad sitting in the middle of my chest. Not a little one like the year before but a HUGE one, warts and all. I almost fall out of bed but catch myself on the side table, cup of tea flying, now part of the carpet. The cat still stares, but now seems to look amused. Another gift from my kitties. His eyes seem to say whats your problem? Dont You like toads? Theyre crunchy !. I slowly reach down and grab the toad which now isnt trying to fight but only has shifted his bulk to keep from being thrown to the floor by my earlier reaction.Hes clearly tired having wasted all his energy jumping on my neck and all over the rug as the carpet fibers and hair covering his slimy body attest to. I take him into the bathroom followed by Orangey where I carefully wash him off. Happily when I released Mr Toad into the dark warm night he was jumping again and disappeared in a flash. The whole time my cat just watched, always following at a distance but clearly intrigued not by the toad but by me. I sometimes wonder who is the pet and who is the owner? Cats, tiny furry anthropologists....
