Sitting on the porch looking at the water now. Temp in high 80s - TopicsExpress

Sitting on the porch looking at the water now. Temp in high 80s with a nice breeze but it’s only 78 on the porch. Just met the neighbors across the street. They lived in Columbus 35 years ago. First things first-No, based on what we saw, TJ didn’t seem unsafe. It was just very different from what we were used to-lots of people on the street and crazy driving beater cars. Typical Mexico. I’m not saying it IS safe, just that from our viewpoint on the freeway, we didn’t have enough info to make a judgment. Saw a little more of Ensenada-got gas there and lost for a minute. Looked like a fun town. Everyone very nice. Already told you about Sunday night. Hotel was very nice and secluded. Palms, flowers and birds. Then Monday was a beautiful drive-spectacular canyons, forests of Saguaros (Cardon) and Boojum trees-look like an upside down carrot and their limbs go in circles sometimes. Very remote. Did not get lost this day. Total drive 430 miles in 9.5 hours. Not bad considering the mountain ranges. Last night’s hotel in Mulege was, uh, a different story. Very basic-no tv and the room reeked of insecticide. Better than cockroaches, I guess. Haha! Met some interesting people. Today from Mulege thru Loreto was a coast road and miles of awesome beaches and mountain islands everywhere. Then inland and more mountains and white knuckle driving. No berm focuses your attention in a most compelling way. Made it to La Paz and got completely lost. An hour later we got back on track and made it in about 5:30. 400 miles in 9.5 hours. Total miles 3500-1000 in Mexico. Hit 7 or 8 miiltary checkpoints-got waved thru all except one who we had to open the tailgate for. The tire spray at Guerrero Negro is automated now! At least that’s what he said-I didn’t see any spray. Cost us 20 pesos, tho. Everyone very nice-no bad experiences. Gas pretty cheap. Car ran like a champ. Dogs doing fine-good passengers and they love the yard. They didn’t eat or poop a lot tho-thank you Kris for that dog food roll. That’s all they would eat.
