Six Nation must oppose the First Nation Education Act as its colonel in nature. The First Nations Education Act in brief: Clearly it is an extension of the Indian Act with the same colonial language from the 1800s. After reading it, it references the INAC Minister quite a bit and is extremely similar to the colonial residential school policy. If a First Nation fails to comply with the standards set out within the Act, regardless of strong culturally relevant curriculum Canada has the authority to withhold funding and the First Nation could possibility go under third party. It unfairly puts the responsibility on parents, Chiefs and Councils and administers to enforce the standards in the Act... even if the First Nation sets higher culturally appropriate standards. Finally and most insulting Canada releases itself and the province from any legal liability and puts the onus of liability on First Nation despite the fact that all the rules and terms are forced on the First Nation by Canada. Our children deserve better than this. Shame on you Canada!
