Check out Alden Tans article 100 things life is too short for. Rock it don’t knock it. The first principle is: Live your own life. Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else’s opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation. Oscar Wilde It takes courage and strength to live your own life, but the rewards are substantial. Why would we accept other people’s values and goals and dreams and reject our own? It does seem absurd but that is what we do. We have massive psychological blocks to valuing ourselves and valuing our life. Many individuals are absent in their lives – they have placed a “nobody in” sign on their forehead. Are you one of them? I used to be, but I eventually saw daylight from the dark corner I was looking up from. Every client I work with has the same problem. Fear is the motivator so the last thing they do is take their lives seriously. Do you hide behind other people and live in their business. If you do the lesson is STOP being a FOLLOWER become the LEADER of your own life and mind your own business. The second principle is: Self-awareness. “He who knows others is wise; he who knows himself is enlightened.” ― Lao Tzu The big questions that need to be answered by those who want to step up and show up in their lives are; Who am I? How do I want to live? What do I want to do? When we become more self-aware we can answer those questions correctly and make better choices. We can choose our interests, set our goals, follow our passions and live a meaningful life. In The Magical Power of Thought you can learn and understand the psychological processes that distort our vision of ourselves, our world and those around us. Self awareness is the foundation of all personal growth. It is the spring board for personal freedom and choice. When we understand ourselves better, we automatically do better. The third principle: Flexibility. When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one that has opened for us. - Alexander Graham Bell Life is not a straight jack. It can’t be predetermined. We need to be flexible, bend with the wind and move with the tide. The world is changing – offering more opportunities to explore and experience new material. We need to be ready to rock and roll when these opportunities come. Some people may view the world as scary and uncertain and cling to what is familiar which in turn n stifles personal and professional growth. Your journey might be a straight easy path, or it might be full of twists and turns. You might have one focus or your interests might change considerably. Life flows through experiences, opportunities and new possibilities. We can go with this flow and enjoy the ride. Life is forever unfolding in front of us. We can continue to trust ourselves, whether we are enjoying success or learning from the mistakes we make. Life is an adventure of discovery. Through discovering the world we can discover ourselves. The fourth principle is: Be persistent. You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestation of your own blessings. Don’t give up. Keep your integrity and authenticity intact. Be true to your commitment to yourself. Many fall at the first hurdle and want to retreat. Persistence is never giving up until you have what you want. Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan “Press On” has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race. - Calvin Coolidge The fifth principle is: Walk gently. Walk gently on your own two feet but walk for the good of humanity. Walk with respect for yourself and for others. Show gratitude and appreciation for being alive and for the beauty of your life : Remain optimistic. Take yourself lightly. Smile and breathe gently Speak your truth Be peaceful. Show kindness. Do no harm. The sixth principle Live in the moment. All that is important is this one moment in movement. Make the moment important, vital, and worth living. Do not let it slip away unnoticed and unused.” ― Martha Graham This moment is all the time we have. Life is a continual flow of moments and movements and to be present in each of them. This is where we experience our unique self. This moment to be who we are, the very best that we can be.
