The hoodlums, who took people unaware also injured about eight other persons. Reasons for the shooting were yet to be ascertained as at press time but Daily Sun checks revealed that a popular vigilance group in the area organized an election that had continued to generate controversy few days ago. Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ebere Amaraizu confirmed the incident but confirmed the death of only two people. Amaraizu also disclosed that about four suspects had been arrested by the operatives of the state police command in connection with the shooting incident. The police statement issued in Enugu yesterday read: “It was gathered that on Tuesday evening, there was an alleged incident of gunfire at Ogwuagor Abakpa, Nike in Enugu which led to the death of two persons and left five injured. “The arrested persons are Peter, Udeh, Osita and one Chief Frank (surnames withheld). “Meanwhile, one Sunday Eze and Nebechi Mba reported dead have been deposited at the mortuary of the Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu while the injured namely Uwadiegwu Onyegwu, Anayo Ifeji, Ani Basil, Hycienth Ugwu and Ozioma Ezekwem are also receiving treatment in the nearby hospital. “Investigations into the alleged incident have commenced in full scale to ascertain the root cause of the incident and those behind it as the arrested persons are now helping the police in their investigation. “The state Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Mohammed has urged members of the public to be law abiding and go about their lawful businesses as security has been beefed up in the area to forestall further breakdown of law and order in the area.” like this page to get more info
