Six things most folks dont know about me...for my friend James Morton... .. 1) Im a procrastinator...Ill finish this tomorrow... :) OK real #1) I have a level 3 soccer coaching certificate and have coached from 10 year olds in house league to competitive district play and 1 year of head coaching the local high school juniors & seniors. 2) I was a 3-4 time a week pick up basketball game enthusiast and eventually got proficient enough to play regularly with a bunch of ex university b-ball players and other guys in downtown gyms that had played with NBA players...I got/had strong legs. 3) I lobbied our town for soccer fields when that wasnt even on their radar and eventually succeeded in embarrassing the council sufficiently that they did the right thing and got some land to plant grass on. 4) Ive sat or co-chaired civic committees related to recreation and historic and cultural preservation through which I can count the highly used splash pad in one of our parks as a brainstorm I had which saves the town enough dough that they should be replacing the main swimming pool with the savings. 5) My career in sales started when I was about 20 years old...I have sold everything from artwork door to door, Filter Queen vacuums (didnt last long), tropical air plants (tillandsias) & commercial art wholesale & retail, life insurance and then real estate from 1986 to present. 6) Im often methodical in my moves but am a fairly quick thinker which has helped me save drowning victims on 2 separate occasions, assist at accident scenes, etc. and help get through other intense stuff that seems to find me somehow. now that Im on this roll I gotta add a 7th... 7) I was a drummer from the time I was a 5 year old and used to put myself to sleep at night by playing marching cadences on my mattress...got my first snare drum at about 12 and used to play to 45s on our RCA console stereo while a buddy sang, played in basement bands and we did school dances, started playing in bars with a couple real good local guys and spent about 10-15 years playing. Got involved in business and family life & left music for about 20 years except for the odd time Id play somewhere...about 4 years ago hooked up with local percussionist Tim Gibson whom really focused me on rudimental drumming, hand independence and of course latin drums & rhythms...its something that was inside me, waiting patiently to pop back out...now its so big I dont think I can stuff it back in the box even if I wanted to... ..
