Six years ago, the center-right nation of Australia decided to put the left in charge for a while. The results have been disastrous. The economy languished while the government pushed pet agendas like gun control and loaded down businesses with job-killing environmental regulations. They failed to secure the borders – or in Australia’s case, the shoreline – and were overrun with boatloads of illegal immigrants. The voters finally got fed up. Saturday, they elected conservative Tony Abbott Prime Minister in a landslide. The left painted him as a mean, cruel, woman-hating extremist. But the voters didn’t buy it. Abbott announced that he would immediately secure the borders, start intercepting the boats full of illegal immigrants, and abolish the CO2 tax. He declared that Australia is open for business again. I wouldn’t normally report on a foreign election in this much detail. But I have a feeling that for America, this might be more than a foreign election. It might be a coming attraction.
