Sixth-Grade Life Science teacher Julie Frey coordinated with the Dallas Zoo as part of their Paw Print Art Show which ran all day Sat. and Sun. This was the public awareness portion of a yearlong conservation project over the Texas Horned Lizard. TVS sixth graders displayed their artwork of the horned lizard in different mediums to help inform the public about our state reptile that is threatened. The students have created brochures, t-shirts, collected over 500 horned lizard sightings as data and worked with Texas Parks and Wildlife. They also set baits for ants and collected data with an entomologist Professor at UTA at Fort Worth Nature Center. We were at the zoo both days and groups of students volunteered to come and talk to the public about how they can help. Mrs. Frey said, It really has been an amazing project. I wrote it last summer and it was supported by Grants for Greatness.
