Sixth Station. Veronica wipes the face of Jesus. Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me. (Mt 25:40) When we are able to see Jesus in the face of others, we recognize that it is a privilege to serve them. The story itself reminds us that when we are sick we are often the beneficiaries of humble, simple consolations by a nurse who bathes a feverish brow, a stranger who stops to give a compliment, a neighbor who brings refreshment at an unexpected moment. Jesus, makes us aware of, and more grateful for, the small, loving kindness shown to each of us. Help us to do as Mother Teresa said, Do small things with great love. May their witness of service inspire us to reach out to others who might needs our gifts.
