Sixth consecutive Public Safety Act (PSA) slapped on Hurriyat Conference (G) leader and Muslim League (ML) chief Masrat Alam Bhat by district administration. This was stated by ML leaders during a press briefing at the press enclave Srinagar today. “Authorities have slapped another PSA on Masrat Alam Bhat,” Mohammad Yousuf Mir, deputy chief of the party told media. The ML leaders distributed the copies of the grounds of detention of the latest PSA against Masarat, issued by the district magistrate Srinagar. “In order to prevent the recurrence of the circumstances of 2008, 2009 and 2010 your detention has become imperative,” the grounds included. The ML leaders clarified that the Hotel owners of Srinagar city did not provide them their space to conduct the press conference so they were compelled to reach the press enclave and brief the media about the latest developments. “We approached almost all the Hotel owners for the space for a few minutes but they refused and said that we need to get permission of police first,” Mir said To Media. Pertinently, Masarat was arrested on October 2010 and he faced five consecutive PSAs after Supreme Court directed the state authorities to inform the accused a week before if it slaps another PSA on him. Mir said that Masarat is being lodged to district Jail Baramulla. Mir strongly condemned the continuous detention of Masarat and other prisoners. He alleged that authorities are ‘manufacturing false cases’ against Masarat only to prolong his detention.
