Sky Sports pundits Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville both believe that Arsenal players would take winning the FA Cup over qualification for the Champions League, arguing that “Arsenal need a trophy.” The Gunners are infamously without a trophy since 2005, leading Carragher and Neville to talk of the importance of the FA Cup, in which they face holders Wigan in the semi-finals. “At the end of your career you want medals,” asserted Carragher. “I don’t know if there’s anyone in that team that has won anything.” “I think it’s about time Arsenal won a trophy. If I were a player in that dressing room I’d want the FA Cup [over Champions League qualification.]” “We’re not talking about a team that’s going to seriously win the Champions League, they always go out in the last 16 anyway. Every year it seems to happen – they never seem to go close. “I think it’s about time the Arsenal players get a medal for the sideboard. For the supporters, a day out at Wembley, you see your team win. That’s what being a supporter is all about.” Neville agreed, stressing, “Arsenal need a trophy, Arsene Wenger needs a trophy.” “The confidence it will give his squad just by standing on the podium with a winners medal around their necks might in some ways be better for the club in terms of moving forward. “Young players need to taste that victory sense and the feeling they can win things. Until you do it, you don’t know whether you can continue to do it.” Admin #Bobz
