Skyway Summer Shootout Rules: Shootout Series runs from Thursday, July 4th to Saturday, August 10th. Entrants must be a USA BMX member in good standing. No entry fee required to participate, simply sign up and start racing! Novice, Intermediate and Expert racers are eligible – male & female, any age; Class and Cruiser or Mixed Open, however, you may not elect to run Mixed Open only, you must run at least one Class or Cruiser race at each Shootout Series event to be eligible. Sorry, Strider riders are not eligible for the Shootout, but we will have Strider races with BIG trophies. Racers must sign up for the Summer Shootout at Bayou City BMX (or by email) any time between July 4th and July 18th (two week sign up window) and will receive an Official Shootout Score Sheet – racers are responsible for maintaining accurate tabulation of their finishes; finishes will be verified by BCBMX Staff. There are 12 races scheduled at Bayou City BMX between 7/4 and 8/10 – riders must race a minimum of 8 of the 12 scheduled races to be eligible to win. In the event of a rain out of any of the 12 scheduled races, Bayou City BMX will run make up races on their officially designated USA BMX practice days, when possible, to make up for any race that may be lost due to bad weather (or any unforeseen event). The more races you run, the better chance you have to achieve a lower finishing average! Racers who choose to run both Class and Cruiser or Mixed Open at race events during the Shootout will be able to enter their best finish (one race) of the three possible categories for scoring purposes. No ‘boat rides’ allowed – must have at least 3 riders (total points races) in your Class, Cruiser or Mixed Open, no ‘drops’. Opens must be ‘pure’ classes within designated age groups, i.e., 9 & 10, 11 & 12, etc. NO SAND-BAGGING ALLOWED TO ENABLE ANOTHER RACER TO WIN. In the event an interpretation of this rule needs to be made regarding eligible finishes, it will be the decision of the Race Director and/or Head Scorer that determines whether sand-bagging has occurred. All decisions will be final. The top male and female racers with the lowest average finish in races run at Bayou City BMX between July 4th and August 10th will win a new 2013 Skyway 20” frame and fork set with a retail value of $449.00 each and a Skyway Summer Shootout Series Champion T-shirt, a Launch Mode hat and Skyway Summer Shootout Series Winner Trophy. Racers (male & female) finishing second (2nd) in the Shootout will receive a Skyway T-shirt, a Launch Mode Hat, a set of Skyway grips and a set of Skyway brake pads as well as one (1) free race entry at Bayou City BMX. Racers running all 12 Bayou City BMX events will receive a Skyway Summer Shootout Series T-shirt. Any racer who wins all 12 of the 12 races run at Bayou City BMX will also receive a set of Skyway Tuff Wheels. Any racer who wins 10 of the 12 races run at Bayou City BMX will receive four (4) free race entry fees at Bayou City BMX in addition to the prizes stated above. Winners will be determined and announced after the final Shootout race at Bayou City BMX on Saturday morning, August 10th. Have a bad race at The Bayou? Take a ‘mulligan’ and replace a bad finish at Bayou City with your best race finish from either Pearland BMX or Beltway 8 BMX only. All finishes earned at Bayou City BMX shall count toward each racers final average, unless a racer decides to use their ‘mulligan’ by substituting a better finish earned at either Pearland BMX or Beltway 8 BMX. This rule encourages riders to attend races at our sister USA BMX tracks and any finishes substituted from other tracks shall be verified. It is advisable for all riders entered in this Series and who race at the other tracks to keep an accurate tally of their finishes in order to use them as a ‘mulligan’ for scoring purposes. (“Mulligan Rule” - Definition: A mulligan, most simply put, is a "do-over.") You must be entered as a Summer Shootout Series Participant to win. As stated above, you can enter in person at Bayou City BMX between July 4th and July 18th or you can enter by email by sending your eligibility information (name, age, classification (Novice, Intermediate, Expert), USA BMX member number, phone number) to: staff@bayoucitybicyclepark. Entry fees: Age Class, $10.00, Cruiser Class $10.00, Mixed Open $10.00. Run two classes, your second one is only $8.00. Add a third class (Mixed Open) and your third race is only $5.00 (Two race total would be $18.00; Three race total would be $23.00). Trophies (or other type Award) shall be awarded to 3rd place in all categories. Ribbons are available to riders placing 4th through 8th place. LOWEST AVERAGE FINISH EXAMPLE: 1st place finish earns one (1) point; 2nd place finish earns two (2) points, 3rd place earns three (3) points, etc. If you enter your best 8 races and have four 1st place finishes and four 2nd place finishes, your average would be twelve (12) points. If you have four 1st place finishes, three 2nd place finishes and one 3rd place finish, your average would be thirteen (13) points. If you have 8 first place finishes, your average would be eight (8) points. TIE BREAKER: In the event of a tie, the rider with the most 1st place finishes will be declared the winner; if a tie remains, we will tally most 2nd place finishes, etc., through 8th place. If a tie still exists at the end of all possible points tallies, a flip of a coin will occur to determine the winner. Let’s go racing! See you at Bayou City BMX July 4th for our first race of the Skyway Summer Shootout Series – free Snow Cones and Hot Dogs to all riders registering to race! The Skyway Summer Shootout Series is a Bayou City BMX promotional event, created by Bayou City BMX in an effort to promote the sport of BMX and is not a USA BMX-created event, but shall be run under the rules and auspices of USA BMX, our sanctioning body. Any disputes or interpretation of the rules stated herein is solely under the purview of Bayou City BMX and not USA BMX. For more information or clarification, please email or call 409.419.5119.
