Slaughtering horses who have given their hearts and souls working - TopicsExpress

Slaughtering horses who have given their hearts and souls working for and trusting their owners happens every day. Champion race horses, show horses, breeding stock, beloved pets, any horse can wind up auctioned to the highest bidder and on their way to the slaughter house. Too many horses are bred. The over supply has to be dealt with. Kill buyers have lucrative businesses thanks to over breeding and the individuals who want to squeeze one last dime out of their animal by taking them to auction. The argument that slaughter is on par with euthanasia is very far from the truth. I dont want to describe how horses are slaughtered in Mexico. It is well documented on You Tube and suffice it to say it is horrific. Horses slaughtered in Canada, where there are plenty of regulations, suffer a similarly awful fate: death by captive bolt. The concept sounds effective: shoot the horse in the correct spot on the upper head and it is dead. But it rarely plays out that neatly. If you are interested in reading documentation by Dr. Mel Richardson, DVM, who was hired to observe horse slaughter in a Canadian plant for two days, please message me. I will tell you this much-Dr. Richardson became a vegetarian soon after his experience. He was a Texas born and raised carnivore previously. If you know what goes on in these plants, you likely understand wahy 80% of Americans are against horse slaughter. If you are pro horse slaughter, please educate yourself about this reality before you tell me it is a humane solution. Please dont breed your horses. Lets get the horse population under control.
