Slow Fashion and Fast Food : we work exclusively with mom/pop - TopicsExpress

Slow Fashion and Fast Food : we work exclusively with mom/pop small shops with between 4-12 tailors each. The beauty is we know who is doing what and how. We have names faces and stories. This month has been challenging tragedy has a name here and strikes without warning, children with dengue fever, deaths of loved ones, and other intense situations affect them the same way it affects us moments of needing time and space to breathe adjust heal or grow. Granted it slows down how fast we produce things but the question is isnt it better to have good energy good quality then fast… We live in a world of fast food, and just now people are catching on to how fast food is deadly for us and the planet how gmo unhealthy non food is causing illness for us and our earth. The reality is we are often unaware disconnected and not conscious at all of our choices in fashion and the impact it has on the workers from the tailors to the stores to the earth and all its creatures. Its easy to support whole foods, to buy there they are committed to making a difference even if imperfect no one stops shopping at whole foods as a vegan because they sell meat . But whole foods is one of the leaders in change of how animals are treated and helping everything including the lives of the animals improve. That wouldnt have happened if vegans and organic food junkies didnt ban together even if they didnt eat meat. With Fashion the industry is one of the most damaging most harmful some companies are as impactful in a negative way as oil companies in there own way. Not concerned with workers health, deaths in mass from unsafe working conditions unfair wages for insane hours. Harsh unhappy work conditions. Then come materials plastic unless recycled is going to choke our planet for a long time. We used sustainable biodegradable materials as much as possible. We use leather and fur from goat and sheep which was killed for food and wouldnt be used as leather unless it was killed for food. Many people dont realize animals just for leather is uncommon and the leather industry is a byproduct of the meat industry. With massive amounts of the world starving already and in many third and second world countries meat being the foundation of a diet short of starving another massive amount of humans to death the world can just all become vegan which means there will be animal skins used for leather or wasted. Leather last a long time we are aware something died for it, it should be worn cherished respected and not cheap. Modal and Silk two of our others are both sustainable we work and source the most expensive modal from austria because the company creating it is committed to sustainable practices and saving our beautiful trees. Rayon often used in our conscious scene comes from trees pine, spruce, or hemlock usually is cut down from anywhere modal is fast growing and we arent cutting down big forrest for it. But rayon is cheaper and many people use it just for that. The idea that cheaper is better in fashion is as ridiculous as cheaper is better when it comes to food. But people arent aware how shopping exclusively at forever 21 on of the top five offenders when it comes to stealing and sweatshops is harmful to the growth and evolution and saving our planet… I didnt think about it it was just cheap… But cheap means someone where is paying for it be it the mother of 3 who is working in a sweatshop for 140usd per month which is the typical salary in china or the planet having its forest destroyed and landfills filled with pleather plastic and thrown away five dollar shirts. There has to be a better way, I am a big fan personally of less clothing more style. less clothing more expensive , less clothing more carefully with what how and who I am supporting. Now although forever 21 is cheap I have a moral issue shopping there, I cant help but see the factories the conditions the planet and the aftereffects. Quality is better then quantity , less is more, I would rather now buy or create a 1,000 jacket aware the person who made it has a chance at putting his kids through collage and eating then buying it for 20 dollars aware god knows who made this jacket and how. Not to mention fully aware its not breathable for my body or biodegradable. Its hard because there is NO way to sell stuff cheaper then we are without squeezing our workers factories or moving to china which are all things I am unwilling to do because well there is more I want to improve on from here but if I dont have any ethics here how can I grow. So next time you buy something to wear, google the material google the company where it comes from. I am a huge fan of smaller clothing labels who are dedicated to making a difference in there own way which inspire magic and invention who find ways to make beautiful things and who care. Some of our competitors as some may see do just that and because of that I view them as inspiring co creators in a new scene a new world a new way of doing buying and selling fashion. The fashion industry as we know needs to evolve without it we will continue to harm ourselves and others just like we have with the food industry. Looking around I see the others I know our friends co creators co designers co creators as the future of that. Eco doesnt mean boring doesnt mean lack of edge and style eco means caring being connected and it being about something more then the bottom line. The bottom line should be about quality, sustainability fair wages and fair work places not the price tag.
