Slowly Tanjan’s corpse was covered by a layer of emerald-coloured flies. Vishnu looked dejected. The secret has been lost forever. A sense of detachment and sorrow rested on His heart. Looking at Tanjan’s dead body, Vishnu wondered how the secret had made all the way from Lord Shiva’s abode in Kailash to Tanjore. Yes! This place from now on will be known as Tanjore, after Tanjan. It was his last wish which Vishnu had granted before killing him. He walked along, sending the flies swarming angrily in the air forming a green cloud. In that instant, Vishnu was struck by the remarkable contrast between the graceful elegance of Tanjan’s dead face and the mean, terrorising expression he had worn all his life. As if the Asura was smiling in gratitude, his eyes fixed on the azure sky, deep beyond imagination. The distance between them lengthened, one little at a time, with the sun’s rays slanting down, the sky high and clear. It was time to go home, Vishnu thought.
