Small Bites: Do I have any cavities? is a question I get from most of my patients who come in for new patient exams and some recalls. Surprisingly, dentists are not just looking at your teeth. They are looking a your gums (a different disease process which needs constant monitoring... like you r teeth), any per-cancerous or noncancerous lesions, negative affects medications you are taking may have, changes in your medical history which may account for abnormal results during your exam... and so on. If you see an MD 1x a year who checks your entire body, and a DDS 2x a year who looks specifically from the neck up, who is going to catch a problem with early detection if he/she is looking? Thats right, we are! Gold star.
