Small rant about the new NBC Dracula... In the novel Dracula represented old world superstition and darkness. Abraham Van Helsing was late nineteenth century compassion and science, standing against darkness. Now Dracula is the one fascinated by science and Abraham Van Helsing and The Order of the dragon are the bad guys who want to keep the world stuck in the dark ages while Dracula believes in science and progress. Whoopse! DID I JUST REVEAL A SPOILER?!? (ironic and not at all really apologetic screaming implied). Sorry about that! Silly me... They have turned Abraham Van Helsing into an annoying metaphor for racism and him and the Order of the Dragon and hateful religious fanatics and... You know what... Im going to curl up with a Fred Saberhagen novel. He gave Dracula a perspective and personality without stripping him of who and what he was...
