Smart engineers making STEM concepts fun and engaging! Alice Brooks and Bettina Chen, two young engineers / entrepreneurs who graduated from Stanford in 2012, founded Roominate with the goal of creating a line of toys to get more girls interested in engineering. Roominate kits are essentially do-it-yourself dollhouses with circuit boards so kids can use a system of color-coded wires and motors to wire their houses and power lights, a fan, and even a working elevator or windmill. As Oppenheim wrote in their review, Its a doll house for kids to design, build and electrify. This one is less about interior decoration and more about engineering. A terrific concept for getting girls involved with problem solving and spatial skills, and building circuits.
