Smoke ALERT to motorists travelling on the Gibb River Road near Home Valley Station in the Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley ALERT LEVEL: A smoke alert has been issued for people travelling on the Gibb River Road, east of the Kalumburu Road, near Home Valley Station in the Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley. The fire is burning approximately nine kilometres north of the Gibb River Road and is moving in a western direction. There is no threat to lives or homes but there is a lot of smoke in the area. DFES is warning motorists travelling along the Gibb River Road between Kalumburu Road and Home Valley Station to take extreme caution when driving through smoke and areas of low visibility. WHAT TO DO: • Be extremely careful when driving through the area. • Turn your headlights on and drive slowly. • Watch for emergency services personnel and follow their directions. • If you cannot see clearly, pull over, keep your headlights and hazard lights on, and wait until the smoke clears. • If you have a respiratory condition and you have been affected by smoke you should contact your local doctor or call Health Direct on 1800 022 222. ROAD CLOSURES: No roads are closed. BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR: The bushfire is moving slowly in a western direction and is out of control and unpredictable. WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING: DFES staff and local pastoralists are monitoring the fire. The fire was reported at 12.44pm on 2 October 2013. AGENCY RESPONSIBLE: DFES is managing the fire.
