Smothered some cabbage tonight. I chopped up 3 links of smoked sausage, browned it in a bit of oil, added chopped onions & bell pepper and cooked it down until really wilted and almost clear. I chopped 1 1/2 heads of cabbage and then added a cup of water and let it cook on medium heat about 75 minutes. I added 2 stalks of celery to help keep the cabbage smell from permeating my house. I used salt, garlic powder, black pepper, crushed red pepper and paprika to season. I added a few shakes of Beazells Cajun seasoning to it as well. It was the first time I ever cooked smothered cabbage. Its not something I eat but my husband loves it.
