Snapchat app to discourage distracted driving SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – We all know it’s illegal, but you don’t have to look far on the road to see a fellow driver who is texting or distracted in some other way. That is why one popular smartphone app is doing about it. Snapchat, the photo message app that erases photos after a few seconds, is adding a feature to discourage people from “snapping and driving.” The app will tell you fast you are moving, and give you a reminder that you shouldn’t be using your phone while driving. 22News asked drivers if this kind of personal warning, a clear reminder that your eyes aren’t where they’re supposed to be, might encourage people to put the phone down, and keep their attention on the road. “People know this and they still do it,” Kevin Fryar of Springfield said. “It’s ignorance. It’s a warning right in their face and they’ll still continue the day after. Bad crashes will still continue to occur.” In a new study, an overwhelming 90% of parents admit to some kind of distracted driving, and they do it when their kids — who will also be drivers someday — are watching them.
