Snapshot: Ever wonder what is happening in Iraq? Well here is a current snapshot: Violence is escalating sharply in Iraq. Bombings, ambushes and kidnappings targeting Iraqis and foreigners, both troops and civilians, have surged this month. Many attacks have gone unchallenged by Iraqi forces in large areas of the country dominated by insurgents,. Hundreds of Iraqis and foreigners have either been killed or wounded in the last week. Last week a Russian made helicopter was shot down by a shoulder launched heat seeking missile killing six Americans and five other foreigners, including a survivor executed by the guerrillas afterward. Another U.S. soldier was killed on Saturday when a roadside bomb exploded near a military convoy west of Baghdad. Overall, attacks have increased since the end of March. Roadside bombings and attacks on military targets are up by as much as 40 percent in parts of the country over the same period. The war has been over for how long now? How much are we currently spending in this war that is over? Last month marked the 11th anniversary of the U.S. war on Iraq. The U.S. has supposedly extricated itself from that war, but its hard to tell from the ongoing payments for it. According to the National Priorities Project, which tracks finances of U.S. military adventurism, as of April 4 at 2:17 p.m., the cost to U.S. taxpayers of the Iraq war hit $818,275,977,147 and it is still rising by $365,297 an hour. I wonder if there ever was a bigger blunder than the Iraqi adventure that continues to this very day.
