Sneak Peek into my novel! (please no spell checking- this is pre-edit.) ~~~We had passed Fort St. John (a small town that seemed to consist of absolutely nothing) awhile ago, and I took to staring out the window. Not use to such heavy isolation, I found myself embracing the vast landscape that encompassed us as we veered farther and farther away from civilization. The hours passed, and nothing new came into view besides rows and rows of trees and empty highway. I began to experience the same sense of infinity I would get from standing inside one of those mirror rooms at the carnival. “Are you going to be okay?” Cody asked me. I hadn’t noticed him watching me, but his sudden interference with my mental trip woke me up from it. “Yes, I’m fine.” I said. “I’ve seen people go through it before.” “Through what?” “Some people can’t handle the amount of wilderness out here. It makes them claustrophobic. I was driving with a couple from Prince Edward Island; my brother’s friends, and the girl had to go back. She was freaking out a bit.” “Well believe me, I can handle it.” “Yea? I hope so, because if you can’t you don’t have much other choice because I’m not turning around. I would just tell you to sit in the back and breathe deeply.” “I’m doing great.” “Tell that to your face.” He snickered. I was stunned for a moment, and had to think fast to redeem myself. “Actually I was just getting sick of Slipknot.” I stated, ejecting the disk he had earlier chosen from the CD player. He looked a little shocked, but just took it as an opportunity to tease me further. “I know you’re lying.” He accused, smiling as he playfully challenged my position. “I am not lying!” I said, giggling. I reached over towards the glove compartment to grab another CD to put on, and unexpectedly, he went for it at the same time. For a moment our hands touched at the door of the glove compartment, and we both pulled back as if we had touched fire. “Uh…do you want to pick something?” He asked, clearing his throat. “Sure.” I said back, noticing my voice was about half an octave higher than usual.
