Snow falling on a dairy farm visit, the steps of discovery as a dairyman talks about his history and his dreams for his family and farm....the decades old facility that is clean and proud, the shavings on the alley floor, the spotless glass jar in the milk house, the chain barn cleaner still working, the round bales broken apart and mixed with grain, the trough full of clean water, the hills of pasture and woodlots sleeping, the alfalfa dormant, the single silage bag against the calf shed, the old concrete silo base and the stone barn entry enduring over seasons, and then the house of stone and wood and Christmas decorations and photos of young children, a table of receipts, a jar of peanuts, the mud room of boots, the wooden door with a pin in it, and in all, the farm family tied to the land, the cows, the landscape, and the ethos of work. As I often write, this, then, is the Beauty of the World spread out before us with humble participation.
