So - in general Im in favor of some kind of living wage, some improvement to the minimum wage, but to play devils advocate, is it actually true that there is no kind of full-time work that might be worth less than ~$15k per year? Should you actually be able to live independently (meaning no rent sharing, room-mates, etc.) if your job is to run the cash register at McDonalds? Or sweep and empty trash cans at McDonalds? Is that a standard that actually makes sense? I had a lot of jobs as a young man that were not hard work, that didnt require any special level of skill, that really, it would have made no sense to expect someone to be able to live on that wage. Does it really make sense to expect someone to be able to live independently by selling popcorn, candy, and Coke at the movie theatre? Or as a lifeguard at the neighborhood pool?
