So Arlington Cemetery I never knew was General Robert E. Lees family home and was turned into a cemetery by Union troops in hopes that the Confederate general might never return to his family mansion that still dominates the grounds. Most interestingly is that on November 11, 1963, president John F. Kennedy was there for Veterans Day and mentioned how beautiful it was there and he would like to one day be buried there.
