So Benjy and I got a surprise last night-- we were talking to Nic about a homework assignment. She had to get names, addresses, phones for 3 references for a resume project for a class. She was discouraged because relatives are excluded--- and (because of Benjy, mostly) she has LOTS of relatives. We explained there were plenty of other people she could ask and B mentioned a local businessman - then he said IT- Grab the phone book and look him up. (Yes, I glanced at him to see if he was kidding, but he wasnt.) Nic looked at him blankly and said I dont know what that is. By the time I realized that he was remembering the phone book we USED to keep in the cabinet right above her head (when we had a landline phone on the kitchen bar), her answer finally registered and we both said What???? Yep, folks, our 13-year-old has never looked at a telephone book. In. Her. Life.
