So I am driving home after running some errands and I see debris on the highway. I slow down and notice people running across the median strip towards it. I first thought it fell off their truck. When I get closer I see it is a motorcycle and the rider is laying in the travel lane on my side. The lady is on her phone talking to 911 and the older man is saying he must be dead. I walked up to him and checked his pulse, and he was alive and trying to move! I placed my hand on his back and reassured him help was on the way. I then noticed his lower leg was not attached any longer so I removed his belt and placed a tourniquet on it. About that time 2 off duty EMTs showed up and asked why I put the tourniquet on a dead man? I said hes alive and he needs help. The three of us started treating him with what we had, a short while later the Troopers and Ambulance showed up and the 2 EMTs and myself moved back to let them start working. The 2 guys asked me if I was an EMT or medical guy and I told them No, Im an Army Veteran and just doing what has to be done. I hope he pulls through this, he is from Maine and I noticed on his bike he had a Persian Gulf sticker! That explains why hes still fighting, good luck brother, Ill keep you in my prayers.
