So I am new here and this is my very first post and I would like some ideas, tips, advice, prayers lol etc... This is turning out kind of long sorry.. My dog has much the same problem as another member just posted about bunnies... My dog has serious issues with cats, he HAS caught one, for instance my family was all sitting in my mother in laws back yard visiting and I had brought and extra long lead to attach to the tree we were sittin by because she has no fence and that way he could sit right there in the middle of all of us and get some attention ( cause hes starved for it lol), she actually lives next door to us so this is a regular thing. Anyway while we were sitting there one of the 9 or 10 stray cats that has decided to live there ran right through the middle of the group and passed within 10 inches of my dog, faster than you can blink he had grabbed the cat. I just knew he would kill it, this was the first time he had caught one but he just held it pinned to the ground with his mouth. I didnt try to take it from him I was scared he would bite down so I just waited, after a few seconds he let go and the cat ran off and my dog started spitting out cat hair that was stuck to his tongue. This wasnt that bad... One other time we we sitting in my MILs house and a stray cat jumped up onto the outside window still, my dog was staring at it intently and suddenly he charged the window and put his head through the glass. Thankfully the window shattered and he only got a small cut on his lip for his effort. Thats the two scariest things that have happened, I dont know if he wants to kill them or just catch them. Now that Ive given 2 examples...if he sees a cat in our yard, my MILs yard, anywhere etc. he becomes hyper focused on that cat and nothing I do will break his focus. I have to physically drag him to the house, up onto the porch and inside before he will look away. Ive tried everything, stepping in front of him to block his view, toys, food, Ive made crazy sounding squeaky noises, I even held bacon in front of his face and it was like it wasnt even there. ( I was eating a biscuit while he went potty it was a rushed morning dont judge me lol) He has almost no training and I cant afford a trainer even if I could find one around here. Ive done the best I could. In the house he will sit and down thats what Ive managed to teach him with positive reinforcement and tasty treats, Ive tried to add distractions like the tv up loud, kids playing, people walking back a forth etc an he does great....until we step outside. Ive asked this question on other pages and the response is always well get a trainer and thats NOT an option for me. I have another question but this had gotten so long I will put it in another post, I didnt mean to be so long winded yall!! Thanks in advance for any advice, tips, books I should read, prayers etc
