So I asked the local American Heart Association for a good person - TopicsExpress

So I asked the local American Heart Association for a good person to interview for the upcoming Lowcountry Heart Walk - 9 am SATURDAY at Liberty Square - and they suggest port worker Kelly Henderson. And Im interviewing this soft spoken single father of two and asked him hows hes changed after his heart attack ... Ready for this? He says a dietitian at Trident suggested he watch FORKS OVER KNIVES and he did. Kelly started a plant-based, mostly vegan diet (he has a small piece of meat once every 10 days, but plans to stop eating it entirely). Hes lost 77 pounds - from 295 to 218 on his 59 frame - and guess what, his blood pressure and cholesterol numbers are going down. He plans to get down to 185. His energy level is up and hes feeling GREAT. His children, which he cares for entirely by himself, also are eating vegan. As someone with heart disease in my family - grandfather died from a heart attack at 52, father has had two open heart surgeries, uncle went to the ER with yet again more chest pains LAST NIGHT, and three siblings on Lipitor - this is very important to me. YOU CAN GREATLY LESSEN YOUR CHANCES OF DYING FROM THE NO. 1 KILLER OF ALL AMERICANS. Kelly took control of his health and his life. YOU CAN TOO! Go vegan/vegetarian. Exercise. And for Gods sake, dont smoke. It is that simple. Lets free up cardiologists to work on defective hearts. bit.ly/1DwpqsT
