So I bought this horse, and had many sleepless nights freaking out because he wasnt broke to ride and I had no freakin idea what I was going to do with him. Im too old for that kind of craziness right? A horse as big as he is could easily break me first. We knew absolutely nothing about him- I didnt even get to talk to the owner. I really dont even know what his breed is. I thought about calling Monty Roberts- but knew I couldnt afford that- we had plans for a guy to come up, but it was going to be awhile- and then those 2 crazy horse ladies shamed me into just getting on the dang horse- which I did - we brought him along slowly, I had been saddling him for awhile and just walking him around all dressed up and ready to go. We let him get used to the noises and weight of the saddle. We worked with him around some obstacles which he took to like a champ- Tuesday I rode him around the pasture all by myself, he did an excellent job- although he was unfamiliar with what I wanted him to do and the signals I was using- once again he came through like a champ- Wednesday we went outside the fence and rode up and down hills and all around unfamiliar territory- once again this horse did what I asked him to do. Last night, we went even farther- down the road, around barking dogs and weird machinery and other horses without a single problem. The two things that really come to mind at this point are- thank-you lord for putting me, this horse, and Melanie Oaks Odell- all in the same place at the same time- and - some poor schmuck really missed out on buying this terrific warhorse of mine for literally pennies.
