So, I complained enough about Facebooks year in review -- mine consisted mostly of throwback photos -- so heres my real year in review. 2014 seems to have been a transition year (as if I havent had enough of those for a lifetime), a bridge from the edge of despair to hopefully better things. Lets see ... as chroniclogically as possible: Going back to the work world at my old New Haven Register stomping grounds and finding some things the same and some vastly different ... The Dictators NYC at Cafe Nine ... My second year of shows on Cygnus Radio ... The Fleshtones, The Six-Pack Dutchmen and Sonic Supercharger 66 at Two Boots in Bridgeport ... Noshing like a pig and getting fat(ter) ... Procrastinating on my damn book, a condition that would last til late December ... The Split Squad (Keith Streng, Eddie Munoz, Michael Giblin and Clem Burke) at the Nine ... A nice visit (breakfast and a 50-cent tour of Prospect) with FB friends from Minnesota, Sharon and Mark ... the joys of pub quiz with Joe and his friends at Tigin in Stamford ... Finally giving in the day before my birthday and buying my first pair of cheaters ... Paola taking me for my first fake nails for my birthday ... an old Register tradition I never thought Id experience again -- Ann baking for my birthday ... a mini-high school reunion (after 35 years) with Rita and her husband, back home from Texas, in Watertown ... Celebrating the solstice with a daytrip to the Lower East Side (and my go-to Dia de los Muertos bag) ... My car making it to Bear Mountain to have a wonderful day with Maureen and Blair, complete with a walk in the state park, what shouldve been a car show and the joys of Graham Norton ... My favorite rocknroll hired gun and fellow former Fresnan via Conecticut, Jes, playing with a Brooklyn punk band at Two Boots ... girls days out at long last with Hollas in Stamford ... My first visit to the Prospect Car Show & Sock Hop, where I encountered two of the cars of my dreams ... Great conversation and bonding with Rosie Flores after her show at the Nine ... a great day with Marcy, who made me a new necklace for my 35th reunion ... the Registers final day in the shirt factory at 40 Sargent Drive ... My 35th high school reunion, a most excellent night for Ms. Frannie 2.0 ... Getting to the City whenever I could ... Ian MacLagan at the Nine about five weeks before his fatal stroke ... The Fleshtones and Los Straitjackets with Deke Dickerson at the Bell House in Brooklyn on Halloween night, and catching up with Vibeke, Ken, Peter and Gaylord ... The first Cygnus Radio musical gathering, with Frank Critelli and Jason Prince, at Best Video in Hamden ... Thanksgving with the family, after a year interrupted (and a huge gift from Ken) ... Blowing out my knee in Grand Central on what was to be the start of three days of Bobby Fuller and friends in NYC ... and a peaceful Christmas at Kens. And next year, the moon. I hope. Ideally, a winning lottery ticket, a rehabbed knee, a huge weight loss, a Mini Cooper before my current car dies, and the focus to write the damned book. And healthy parents. Normally, my odd-numbered years really suck, but I hope 2015 breaks that spell once and for all.
