So I finally sat down and watched the new ROBOCOP (2014) - TopicsExpress

So I finally sat down and watched the new ROBOCOP (2014) film....and I have to say that I was wrong....mostly. The film is excellent in ways the original film didnt provide. One of which being the fact they allowed Alex Murphy to keep his humanity from the onset. I enjoyed the hardened, robotic nature of the original but it left me feeling sorry for Murphy knowing his life was cold and barren....a product of OCP and nothing more. This film provides more humanity in the main character - allowing him the hopes of having the love of his wife and child continue...and in this day of soldiers coming home with lost limbs and brain injuries, to show the love of a spouse devoted no matter what is a great asset given to the film. Something as simple as that allows me to enjoy the robot more and pity the man less. The reveal of man vs machine was spectacular - I cringed when watching him react to what was left. Oldmans performance carries the film through. The one thing though this film lacked was the villain. Clarence Boddicker and the crew from the original was simply raw and ruthless - the corporate aspect of this film falls short. My heart will always belong to the original Robocop - Wellers performance is untouchable. But I do have newly found room for this film as well....and to think how much I was hating on this early on. Eating crow. Plus Abbie Cornish is in it so....yea...love her. :) youtu.be/AZX7kQWWqQ4
