So I finally saw Frozen last week. I liked it. Is it an eternal masterpiece? Nope. Is it pretty good? Sure. It pulled off the daunting task of jumping to the top of my list of non-Pixar computer animated movies... well... its locked in a struggle with Kung Fu Panda for me mainly because its partially cheating on the non-Pixar angle with its executive producer (seriously, how good is John Lasseter!?!?) Also keep in mind, I still havent seen HTTYD (I know, but I need to nip those comments in the bud before they begin.) Anyhoo, why do I bring this up? Because I just read two articles. One is an argument and one is a rebuttal. (I shouldnt say read as they are both very long and Im at work so there was a good amount of skimming.) Anyway, the first article is a impassioned case against the general opinion of Frozen being great in empowering female characters. The second article is a lambasting of the first article. https://medium/disney-and-animation/7c0bbc7252ef (The Problem with False Feminism) chezapocalypse/thefrozenthing/ (The problem with The Problem with False Feminism) As I am not a woman I sometimes find it hard to comment on issues of feminism and gender equality. I want to share my opinions on both, but in reality I think people should take the journey of reading both articles and see where they land.
