So I get up to pee at 4:15 a.m. last night (or so - or was it 2:15?). Im walking toward the bathroom when something catches my eye off the back balcony. It looks like someones pointing one of those flashlights at our house set to strobe. I go over to the door and stand next to it and peek out, and I see it again. Our house is being flashed, over and over again. Pure silence though. Totally creeping me out. Eventually I realize its happening from more than one location - in front of me on the left and on the right. So I finally go out on the balcony and see that in two very specific, locations, not moving at all, bright flashes of light are going nuts, along with pure silence. There were built-up clouds (oh - I guess Im in past-tense now, haha) but not as cloudy as one might imagine for a storm. Finally I began to see the big Z-shapes of lightning. Crazy cartoon lightning - like from a comic book. Every 5 seconds or so. Massive and detailed. Still no sound. I was about to wake Jeff and tell him aliens were invading our planet when I finally heard the gentle rumbling of thunder. Id never experienced anything like this in Portland. SO weird and fascinating. I sat out there and watched the show for quite a while, mesmerized and so surprised that the lightening never changed its location, and that for the majority of the show (before I couldnt keep my eyes open any longer and went back to bed) there was no sound. Did anyone else catch this?!
