So I had a discussion with a couple of humans, during which I tried to have them see why they would be doing themselves, their unborn children, the world and any potential aliens a favour by changing their view on how they should be living their lives. They apparently recycle and take the bus instead of the car, when possible, but when I mentioned not having children and letting your species take a step toward extinction, they instantly became rather uncomfortable, go figure. I explained that whole situation to them, which took a good while, and they finally accepted their faulty actions and expectations. However, when then asked whether they were still considering having children, they said they were sure they still wanted them, so I asked why and they answered because we want to. This is not the first time I have wasted my time trying to help such fools, but it strikes me as odd that no one I have talked to, in person, about these things has been willing to change even the slightest. Obviously, as we see here, some people can, but why? What do you have to go through to be willing to take such steps for the world? Do you have to be pessimistic or leaning in that direction? If so, that would explain a lot. Optimism is, after all, not a rare find, despite the state of the world and its inhabitants.
