So I have a hypothesis/fear about the English language. Shakespeare helped to codify spelling and some pronunciations after the great vowel shift. Theory one is that American, Australian, and English will all be different languages within the next 500 years. Now the fear I have is as text speak and alternative spellings become more acceptable, are we going to return to a time of non standard spelling within that same 500 years?
