So I have a story to share with all of you. First of all I want you to know that I have moms permission to tell this. Its lengthy but I guarantee it will make you laugh. For all of you that have showed your concern for my mom throughout this last week, I want you to know that she is definitely on the mend!! For those of you who know my mom well, you know she has a pretty good sense of humor. Often times its pretty off colored but we love it! Its been a pretty rough week for her but I knew she was getting better on Tuesday. I spent the day with her at rehab. I wanted to see what she did at physical therapy and occupational therapy. Her occupational therapist, just happens to be a very handsome young man probably around 28, who clearly works out. His job is to teach her skills to help with the tasks of every day living with her temporary physical limitations. And yes that means bathing and getting dressed. He comes into moms room carrying all these long handled gadgets and tools. He tells her hes now going to show her how to bathe and get dressed using these tools. He proceeds to wheel mom in her wheelchair into the bathroom. Now picture this, its a small hospital bathroom, mom sits in a wheelchair half naked with just her Johnny on, the nice looking therapist is next to her holding all the 3 foot long handled gadgets, I think there were four in all and Im crammed in the corner trying to stay out of the way. And its HOT in there! He proceeds to show mom something that I think looks like a dust mop but is actually a pole with a sponge on the end of it. He explains that it is used to wash all the places that she cant reach like her toes her feet her heels her legs. You see shes not supposed to bend down past her waist. So mom, I think in an attempt to lighten the awkwardness of it all says Oh so this is to help me reach my 2001 parts? He chuckled and said yes. Mom then replies hell I havent been able to reach even half of my 2001 parts for years, why bother now! It did alleviate some of the awkwardness that is until he grabbed my mothers underpants. I could see that mom was starting to sweat profusely! He grabbed her granny panties, cause lets face it moms not a thong kind of girl and clamped on to them with his 3 foot long tongs and proceeded to show her how to put her underpants on without bending at the waist. Now Im sure most of you know how badly my moms hands shake but do you know how bad they shake when shes nervous? He hands her the pole with her panties dangling on the end and says now you try!! Well mom tried with all her might but she looked more like someone waving a white flag surrendering to the enemy !! She kept trying and they kept getting caught up in her toes then on her heel and finally on the wheelchair itself. She finally let out a big sigh, laid the pole and panties on her lap, looked at that handsome therapist and said you know I never in my whole life ever dreamed that I would be 80 years old and in a bathroom with a handsome young man who was trying to help me put my under pants on! Besides arent young men like you usually more interested in taking them off !!! God I love her Im so happy to have my mom back!!!
