So I have decided my life needs a little more inspiration. I am going to try to get back to writing. I have always loved to write. It is a big outlet and lets me relax. I am going to post what i write on here and I hope you all will read and tell me what you think. Whether your response is good or bad I want to here it all. Well on that note here is the first bit of the book series I am trying to write: Clair walked down the middle of the street, weaving through the abandoned cars leading out of town. She tried not to notice the carnage left behind in more than a few of the vehicles; a small shoe peeking out from beneath a minivan; a work boot standing alone, its owner long gone. As she walks along memories flash through her head, the images taking her far away from herself. The Dead Heart Virus spread throughout the country with startling speed and an astonishing mortality rate. Only an accident of birth saved the world from complete annihilation. A select few heart defects, while before the virus they would have been an affliction, now they were the hope for the human race. Everyone thought that if a virus were to sweep the populations of Earth it would come from scientists experimenting with things they shouldnt or from a bio-attack in a final world war when in reality it was a simple farmer from rural Arkansas that brought about the end of civilization as we know it. While plowing one of his fields in preparation for planting season David Arkane hit a rock that broke the plow on his tractor. Upon investigating the stone he realized that it was much bigger than what he thought it would be and much older. The portion sticking above the earth had a partial engraving that turned out to be Native American. Since the field he was plowing was an extra plot, more of an insurance policy in case of drought or storms he decided to forsake planting it to dig up the artifact. When it was finally unearthed, David was looking at a stone casket-like chest about 6 feet long and 4 feet tall that was intricately engraved on every available surface with native american writing and pictures. After inspecting it for some time David pried the lid off of the chest, opening it for the first time in over 400 years according to the writings that were later translated. Inside was a wooden box of the most exquisite craftsmanship. David took the box back to his home where his wife and kids crowded around the kitchen table, believing they might have lucked upon a treasure that could change their lives. David and his family were dead in days. The entire South-East was affected within a month. 6 months later there were more infected people in America than unaffected. Those who were immune had the horrifying experience of watching their loved ones hearts literally start to decay in their chest until their hearts finally just stopped. Clairs family was hit with the Virus a month and a half after the box was opened. Her dad came home from work on Monday with a tightness in his chest that he passed off as a chest cold. Thursday he was bedridden with an intense pain in his chest and a coldness creeping up his limbs. By this time everyone knew what had happened, but it was too late. Clair watched and cared for her mom, dad, and little brother as they were quickly and brutally taken. Now she wandered town to town, taking what she needs, scavenging to survive from the leftovers of humanity. It had been almost 4 months since the government collapsed and 2 since she saw another living person. Cities were to be avoided at all costs; those who survived could be ruthless in their will to survive and merciless in taking what they wanted. So Clair stuck to small towns, only taking what she would need to make it to her next stop. She kept a bow her dad had given her 3 years ago for her fourteenth birthday with her at all times for protection. As well as a buck knife that had been her grandfathers. She had yet to need them, but they gave her a sense of safety nonetheless. Maybe that is what made her break her rules and come face to face with the beast.
