So, I have safely arrived at the Amritapuri Ashram... Unfortunately, we are not allowed to take pictures, so I will not be posting any. And internet is very spotty... Im not even sure how I got on right now. So my posts may not be as frequent... we shall see. What an adventure I have had so far! First, I almost missed my flight, although I was 3 hours early bc they changed the gate & I did not know until 10:28am for my 10:35am flight, but miraculously, I made it! :-) The flight was fine & my drive to the ashram was great... my driver was very nice. By the time I got here & took the 5pm orientation tour, I was exhausted & had a splitting headache... I had almost been traveling for 24 hours w/o proper sleep, so I crashed. The bed is a thin mattress pad on the floor & the office that gives out the sheets was already closed, so I slept with my clothes on & was fine until my roommates came in @ 1am & wanted to turn off the fan... One is allergic to the dust & so when the fan is on, it makes her cough more (bad luck in India) & the other one is having special Ayurvedic treatments done & is not supposed to have the fan on at night. So, as soon as the fan goes off, the mosquitoes start biting the not many exposed areas I had... my face, ankles & fingers. And now Im also hot & sticky & the mosquito bites are burning... Not a very pleasant night. The accommodations are very, very basic here. I was able to switch rooms this morning... hoping my new roommate has no fan issues. Im realizing what a pampered princess I am :-P (lol!!) & wondering if I will adapt & how long I will last here. I guess this is all supposed to be part of the spiritual journey here, huh? Detachment? Simplicity? We shall see... Other than that, everyone I have met here has been quite nice & it seems very peaceful here. 😊 I will keep u posted as much as I can.
