So I have to say this. This isnt meant to start an argument. It isnt meant to garner hatred or disdain. I hope that maybe some people have their perspectives changed. I tend to be more middle of the road in terms of my theology in my assessment. Im OK with LGBT people and women being involved in all aspects of the Church. I do not judge non-believers or other denominations as being hell bound because thats not my call (its Gods). I try to be nice and to respect everyones personhood and their ideas. Im also rather conservative and traditional. I did not like the notion of Muslim prayer at the WNC. I would not go to a racial workshop to talk about feelings and experiences because I would find it unappealing. I feel I have a hard enough time being a good person as Andrew, than to have to add on the guilt of all of Male, Caucasian, American, Anglican history on top of my shoulders. I like liturgical tradition. I think our history is beautiful and important. I tend to lean Anglo-Catholic. I feel increasingly pushed away by progressives in this denomination. I disagree with you, so you want to challenge my dedication to the baptismal covenant? Really? Isnt that just cheap? The misconception is the logical fallacy of False Dichotomy. Thats the idea that the situation is black and white. One person is right, the other person is wrong. That ignores the notion that there may be multiple correct methods to reach resolution. Methodology is not morality by necessity. Also, its disgusting to challenge someones faith and relationship with God because they disagree with you on some hippy political issue. You make yourself look like a bully. Since when did the Unitarian Universalist Church stage a hostile takeover of The Episcopal Church? The Church used to be the staunchest conservatives out there when it came to politics. Then again, I dont think the Church was as active in politicking as it is today either. Why do we have to agree with everyone? I feel like thats the trend we are heading towards. I understand being kind and loving everyone. That doesnt mean agreeing and rolling over on our traditions, cannons, and rubrics in the name of appeasement. I am a 25 year old male. Just the type that Church is looking to woo (along with literally everyone else in marketing). You know what pushes me away as a parishioner? This dogma that you must be so politically correct and walk on eggshells or else you get run out of the church. This dogma that well adapt to accommodate any and everyone else that thinks different (except for our own parishioners). Its a dogma of spinelessness. Good grief, it almost makes you want to be a Roman or an Orthodox. At least they stick to their guns for a little while. I truly love every single one of you, but the way that people bicker and bully on here to support the progressive line is irritating, and is not conducive to this church being around for my grandkids. I feel this progressive bullying and lack of reverence for our traditions may be the single biggest problem TEC faces. I feel that our outlook needs to change. Our perspective in how we look at problems needs to change. It may be our only hope.
