So I just saw an article about how Eminem is the latest rapper to diss Iggy Azalea, only he more or less threatens to rape her. The only thing more shocking to me than the rap in itself is peoples responses. I personally thought Iggys response was classy and well said, regardless of how I feel about her music. However, of this one article I read, comments were (to summarize) laughing at her, praising Eminem, saying she shouldnt mess with Eminem, that they couldnt wait for his response, and more... Im sorry, but did a grown ass man with a teenage daughter just publicly rap about RAPING someone, and get praised for it by the general public??? Im done.... Im so done. This is the rape culture that is every now and again referred to, but rarely if ever confronted. Rape is not a joke.... its never a joke.... but even worse is the way that, when used in a joking way (& I feel like gritting my teeth calling it a joke) that it is actually supported?? Perhaps Ive taken it way out of context (dont care) and no doubt people will tell me to lighten up, but this is the problem with our culture these days.... the encouragement of people to just do whatever you feel like, and if someone else is not ok with it, theyre boring. It encourages this idea that a female is only cool if shes down with whatever.... and probably that a diss like this should just be taken with a grain of salt, coz its just Eminem, and its just a rap, and her and other people with reactions like mine should just lighten up. I wish people would take a step back sometimes and not just buy into what theyre told is normal. What happened to traits like kindness and compassion and human decency being valued? Thoughtfulness and caring are not weak qualities, and I feel like in stories like this one.... it would do people well to step back and think before they laugh or be flippant about a young woman being dissed by a man - a father no less - who suggests he might like to rape her. #rantover
