So I kept seeing all these quaint, beautiful pictures of my friends/fam here posed sweetly before a sparkly Christmas tree, opening presents in a non-chaotic fashion with swathes of carpet visible to the human eye. Thank you for those lovely snapshots into your worlds. I truly find them delightful. On Christmas last year, I had all the presents under the tree before Christmas and child #2 decided to open them all. It was so sad, child #1 didnt get to open any of hers. So this year, I hid everything in the garage, wrapped when I could, then sat up until 3am wrapping on Christmas Eve. I slept in my girls room so I could wake up with them, but apparently they just got out of bed, ran downstairs & opened presents. I heard nothing b/c we were in the quietest room in the house. :( I woke up at 9am & noticed Keira was still asleep beside me, but somehow covered in paint. Maya was sitting on the bed beside me holding something. Here mama, its for you. Her hands were brown and she was trying to hand me something squishy. What is it? I asked. Its a clay pot I made for you, she said. Wait, where did you get that? I asked, sitting up. Santa brought it, she said. My heart sank. I really wanted to see their little faces when they saw the tree and opened their presents! And ... oh gawd. Clay pot? Carpet? Paint-covered snoozing child? I jumped out of bed. The scene downstairs is (still) post-apocalyptic. Paint all over the hardwood floors, carpet, walls, entire roll of TP used to wipe up extra paint & now just attached to hardwood in a rainbow of color .... bows, ribbons, wrapping paper strewn all over the living room with gifts opened & contents splayed out beside them, like guts. Kinetic blue sand all over the circle table and floor. Jelly jar with spoon inside beside a crusty old piece of garlic Naan that had been smeared with cherry jam. Congealed globular chunks of jelly all over counter & floor. Plus, the cat decided to relieve himself in the bathroom. So that, if you will is the snapshot into Christmases at MY house. I may just take a selfie with the disaster in the background for sh!ts n giggles with a Santa hat on. ;) Im hiding in my room right now b/c downstairs, one cannot even tell if there is carpet in the living room & Im not quite sure where to start. The kitchen is pretty much closed b/c I think every dish we have is dirty from Christmas eve dinner celebration & on Christmas, we were gone mostly all day. Last night we got home late, put the girls down & watched a movie. Wish me luck, Im goin in!! Gonna need a helmet, knee pads and footy mopping shoes.
