So I may be naïve or misguided, and if I am, someone please - TopicsExpress

So I may be naïve or misguided, and if I am, someone please comment and correct me. This also may rub some people the wrong way. Can all of you who share these 10 ways to increase your chances of a successful marriage articles please stop? I get it, its nice and fantastical and feel-good. But youre infecting my/our generation with the notion that a successful marriage is a roll of the dice. Like it has anything to do with something other than two people following through on a commitment (scary word) they BOTH made to each other on their wedding day. The minute you start playing the odds based off what other people claim made their relationship successful, youve given up some degree of trust (another scary word) in yourself and your spouse or potential spouse. So to all my friends who have these thoughts weighing heavily on them: chill out. Ive asked countless elderly couples what made their marriage last (50+ years usually). Not a single one said Oh we read this Buzzfeed article and he made $80k+ a year so we just knew it was right. Unanimously, the answer is a mixuture of hard work and commitment. So stop letting these columnists influence your life, theyre just as lost as you. Go ahead, blow up the comments section, I got my pen and notepad ready.
