So I may diss English football and cricket but when it comes to music, this island in the North Sea separated from Europe by the English channel has been phenomenal and consistent with the music it has given the world. And maybe that separation was a gift since they have evaded the influences of Euro trash music. Yeah bite me but I aint taking it back since it is what it is. My passion for Incognitos music began 30 years ago when they stepped out as Light of the World, a collection of raw talent from North and East London bringing their particular blend of British Jazz funk and soul to a cult following. Too much talent and two many members with different ideas and they eventually split into Beggar and Company, Central Line and Incognito. 31 years later while most have faded into obscurity Incognito endures with musical integrity, individualism, sophistication and talent. In 1994, they appeared on the Red Hot Organizations compilation album, Stolen Moments: Red Hot + Cool. The album, meant to raise awareness and funds in support of the AIDS epidemic in relation to the African American community, was heralded as Album of the Year by Time magazine. Incognito continue to wow and astound me and audiences all over the world with really great vibes. They have grown up well. And although they have never really broken into the mainstream consciousness (maybe a good thing), today they stand as a highly respected group of musicians in a genre long dominated by US musicians. Big ups for yet another great British band whose superb music has been remixed time and again by giants like Masters at Work, David Morales, Roger Sanchez and Jazzanova. Nuff respect Bluey and crew.
