So I met Big B yesterday. How did it go? Quite disappointingly, to be honest. For starters, I couldnt get over how tired, washed out and OLD he looked. I did some quick math and figured he is just about 6 years older than my dad. He looks about 15 years older. Way to go, Baba, Mohammad Farooq, you are way, waaaayyyy better maintained than Bollywoods biggest superstar :D Secondly, I felt sorry for the old man. Ive heard he has not been keeping well, but is honouring his film promotion commitments because he is a man of his word. I felt a little sad because he did look a bit unwell, and no one should have to sit through a dozen interviews when they are not feeling well. Thirdly, sitting next to a chirpy and ever-smiling Boman Irani, he looked absolutely morose. Maybe it was because he was sick, but any time he was not talking, he had a scowl on his face. Theres a name for that! Lastly - and I think this is more of a funny story, and not a downer :D - at least I did ask him one question that didnt force him to yawn, but almost made him jump out of his seat instead. Me: So, youre in Dubai at the right time to watch the IPL matches. Are you going to catch any of them? Big B: (Starts talking about something random which makes me think he didnt hear my question properly and I squirm uncomfortably in my seat waiting for him to finish, because I sure dont wanna interrupt him. When hes done, i ask him ...) Me: So are you rooting for any IPL team in specific? Big B: Oh, youre asking about IPL?! Ok, ok ... (and proceeds to tell me what you will read in the interview, not here). Me: Have you ever thought about investing in an IPL team? Big B: (nearly jumps out of his seat) Investing in an IPL team?!! But theyre all sold! Me: Yes, of course, but you can always buy a stake in one. There are still at last three with no Bollywood associations. Has the thought ever crossed your mind? Big B: (extremely indignant and almost offended by my question) Do you think I have the kind of money to buy an IPL team?! I wanted to tell him yes, I think you do, but I really didnt want to get into a fist fight with a sick old man my fathers age!! Weve come a long way from being the girl that bumped into him in a hallway once and froze in spot out of shock/awe/star-sruckedness ^_^ But let me tell you ... that deep, deep voice? Big Bs vocal chords never stop working their magic!
