So I saw on the BOM website it was only 1.6C at Ferny Creek at about 2:30pm, so knew that it was very close to snowing, if not already. Snow was forecast to 400m in the Dandenong ranges. So I took the train out to Belgrave and bus past Ferny Gully, Mt Dandenong, Olinda.etc...at first it seemed I would be disappointed...then I saw the ground covered in white, but it was hail. It hailed heavily about 15 minutes into the 1 hour trip to Croydon, then I saw what appeared to be more convincing patches of snow, but didnt get a good shot of it. The bus driver said that there was snow/sleet mixed in with the rain/hail, which would make it the first time Ive witnessed snow falling, although considering it was 5C Im not sure. Either way, I think there were at least patches of snow. Nonetheless was bloody cold! Since I probably wont go to Buller or Baw Baw this winter its the closest I was to seeing snow this winter.
