So, I stopped at a 7-11 after leaving the job site today to get a slurpee, as one is wont to do when working outside all day. There was a young boy, maybe seven or eight, clearly deliberating which flavor he wanted. Whilst he decided, I proceeded to prepare my frozen, carbonated delicacy, layering lemonade, fanta cherry, and mountain dew. I glanced over at the boy and noticed his mouth agape and his expression was consistent with ones brain melting out of ones head. After making eye contact, he whispers with an awestruck tone, you can mix them? To which I respond with, of course you can, want me show you how? With a vigorous head nod, we began a five minute lesson in slurpee layering. Being a young and excitable fellow he went for the full Monty and layered all six flavors, which Im sure hell refine his personal blend as he ages. He promptly marched off to the cashier to pay for his concoction with nary a thanks, but given his elation, Ill issue a pass for his slip in manners. Youre welcome my young squire, I was happy to impart what knowledge I could to you in our short time together. Enjoy the brain freeze and discolored tongue. Moral? Its takes very little to make a child happy. Do what you can, when you can, and slowly but surely the world will become a better place. Even if its one slurpee at a time.
